Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in adults

• It is unsafe to consume Glycomet-GP 2 Forte Tablets under the influence of alcohol as it may cause life-threatening side effects like lactic acidosis and hypoglycemia
• Do not take a double dose of Glycomet-GP 2 Forte Tablet PR if you miss a dosage skip the dose and follow the regular schedule prescribed by your doctor
   

Glycomet-GP 2 Forte Tablet may interact with the following medicines, consult your doctor
 

• Insulin, High blood pressure (hydrochlorothiazide, amlodipine)
• Water pills/diuretics (furosemide)
• Heart failure-related medicines (digoxin)
• Anti-hypertensive (metoprolol), Steroids (prednisolone)
• Thyroid hormones

Pregnant or breastfeeding women must consult their doctor before taking Glycomet-GP 2 Forte Tablet as it is unsafe to take this medication during pregnancy. It must be properly prescribed for breastfeeding mothers

• Glimepiride helps decrease high blood sugar levels and avoid long-term complications of diabetes
• Take Glycomet-GP 2 Forte Tablet PR shortly before or with the first main meal of the day (usually breakfast). Avoid skipping meals
• Monitor your blood sugar level regularly while you are taking this medicine
• Glycomet-GP 2 Forte Tablet PR can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol or if you delay or miss a meal
• Always carry some sweet food or fruit juice with you in case you experience hypoglycemic symptoms such as cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremors, and anxiety
• Your doctor may check your liver function regularly. Inform your doctor if you develop symptoms, such as abdominal pain, loss of appetite, or yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice)
• You have been prescribed Metformin control blood sugar level and reduce the risk of diabetic complications such as heart attacks
• Inform your doctor immediately if you experience any deep or rapid breathing, persistent nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain as Metformin may cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis, which is an excess of lactic acid in the blood
• Prolonged use of Metformin may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency which may lead to anemia, causing fatigue, pale skin, shortness of breath, or headache

Glycomet-GP 2 Forte Tablet PR is an anti-diabetic medication (biguanide) that contains Glimepiride 2mg, Metformin 1000mg
Glimepiride increases the amount of insulin released by the pancreas in order to lower blood glucose
Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver, delaying the absorption of sugar by the intestines thus increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin

Q. Does Glimepiride make you sleepy?
Glimepiride itself does not cause sleepiness. However, it may cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) when used with other anti-diabetes medicine. Because of this you may feel sleepy or have problems in sleeping

Glimepiride does not affect kidneys in patients with normal kidney function. However, its use should be avoided in patients with severe kidney disease since Glimepiride is principally eliminated by the kidneys

No, it is not known that Glimepiride causes memory loss. However, the use of Glimepiride may cause low blood sugar which may cause problems with concentration and reduced alertness

Q. Who should not take Glimepiride?
Glimepiride should be avoided by patients who are allergic to it, have severe kidney or liver disease, have G6PD-deficiency (an inherited condition affecting red blood cells), or are due to have surgery. Additionally, patients who are trying to get pregnant, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have insulin-dependent diabetes (type 1 diabetes mellitus) should avoid taking Glimepiride

Glimepiride takes about 2 to 3 hours to reduce blood sugar levels. You may not feel any difference, but this does not mean the medicine is not working. Continue taking the medication as directed by your doctor and if you have any concerns, discuss it with your doctor

• Glycomet-GP 2 Forte Tablet PR is generally prescribed with a low dosage for patients with mild to moderate liver disease and its use is not recommended for patients with severe liver disease
• Glycomet-GP 2 Forte Tablet PR is not recommended for patients with severe kidney disease
