Rifakem 550 Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.

• You have been prescribed Rifaximin for the treatment of infectious diarrhea.
• It should only be taken for a maximum of three days. If your symptoms do not improve after three days, inform your doctor. Do not take a second course of Rifaximin.
• It may cause reddish discoloration of urine. This is normal and harmless.
• Stop taking Rifaximin and inform your doctor if your diarrhoea gets worse or starts to contain blood or mucus.
• Finish the full course of the medication, even if you feel better. Stopping the course early increases the risk of coming back of the infection.

Rifakem 550 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Rifacus 400mg Tablet is an antibiotic. It works by stopping the growth of the bacteria that cause infectious diarrhea.

Q. What does Rifacus do for the liver?
In liver disease, there is an increased growth of bacteria in the intestine which increases the load of toxins travelling through the body. This further increases the possibility of toxins reaching the brain which can cause abnormal brain function. Rifacus slows down the growth of bacteria in the gut, decreasing the symptoms in cases of liver disease.

Q. Can Rifacus cause weight gain?
Usually Rifacus does not cause weight gain. However, in case you feel there is an increase in weight, you should consult your doctor to determine the reason of weight gain.

Q. Should I take Rifacus with food?
Yes, Rifacus can be taken orally with or without food with a glass of water. Take it as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take it for a longer time than your doctor ordered.

Q. For how long should you take Rifacus?
The duration for which you may need to take Rifacus will depend upon the disease being treated. If it is prescribed for treatment of traveler's diarrhea, it is usually given for 3 days. When given for irritable bowel syndrome, it is usually given for 14 days.

Taking Rifacus can help improve the symptoms and delay the recurrence of the disease. However, it is not sure whether it will cure the disease completely or not. Rifacus usually starts acting within 24 to 48 hours. The symptoms like diarrhea improve gradually after you start taking this medication. Usually, taking Rifacus for 2 weeks relieves the symptoms of IBS. Moreover, it has also been seen that this 2-week course of Rifacus provides relief for up to 10 weeks even after stopping the medication.
