Renin 5mg Tablet is unsafe to use during pregnancy as there is definite evidence of risk to the developing baby. However, the doctor may rarely prescribe it in some life-threatening situations if the benefits are more than the potential risks. Please consult your doctor.

Renin 5mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Elrik 5mg Tablet is an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It works by reducing stress on the heart and relaxing blood vessel so that blood flows more smoothly and the heart can pump blood more efficiently.

Q. What is Elrik used for?
Elrik is a medicine used to treat high blood pressure and prevent or treat heart failure. It helps reduce the chances of heart attack and stroke in high blood pressure patients. Elrik belongs to ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibitor group of medicines. It relaxes and widens the blood vessels and therefore blood passes more easily through them and heart does not have to work more to push the blood.

Q. Does Elrik cause excessive urination? Can it cause kidney damage?
No, Elrik is not a diuretic and does not cause excess loss of water through urination. The use of Elrik may not affect a normal functioning kidney. However, damage to the kidney may occur when Elrik is given with a diuretic. In such case, either the diuretic should be discontinued or its dose should be reduced. If you have severe heart failure or your kidneys are already affected, then there is a risk of kidney failure but timely and appropriate treatment can reverse the damage.

Q. Can use of Elrik affect my liver?
In rare cases Elrik may cause yellowing of skin and eyes, loss of appetite, and increase in liver enzymes. It can also cause considerable damage to liver and even death. Therefore, if you experience any such symptoms, call your doctor immediately.

Q. Is it safe to use Elrik along with hydrochlorthiazide?
You have to be careful when taking Elrik with hydrochlorthiazide, as it can further decrease your blood pressure. You may also develop symptoms of renal failure, especially if there is substantial water or salt loss prior to starting Elrik. If you face any such issues contact your doctor who will either advice to discontinue hydrochlorothiazide or give a lower dose. The doctor may also advise you Elrik in very low doses when used in combination with hydrochlorthiazide.

Q. I am taking ibuprofen for arthritis, is it safe to take Elrik along with it?
You should avoid taking ibuprofen and Elrik together since there is a risk of kidney damage. Also, this combined usage may reduce the effectiveness of Elrik. Consult your doctor for an alternative to ibuprofen.

Q. How long does it take for Elrik to start working?
Elrik starts reducing blood pressure within few hours. However, it may take few weeks to see full benefits. You may not notice any difference after taking Elrik for high blood pressure, it can only be noticed when you get your blood pressure checked. So, keep taking the medicine to feel better. If you are taking Elrik for heart failure, it may take few weeks to months before you start feeling better.

Q. How long do I need to take Elrik?
You may have to take Elrik for long time (even for life time), until and unless any serious side effect starts bothering and deters you from taking it. However, do not stop taking it without the advice of your doctor.

Q. What can happen if I suddenly stop taking Elrik?
You should not stop taking Elrik without consulting your doctor. Doing this can suddenly increase your blood pressure which may cause a risk of heart attack or stroke. If you experience any side effects, talk to your doctor who will prescribe you another medicine.

Q. Is it safe to take Elrik for a long time?
Yes, Elrik is generally well tolerated by most people and can be taken for long term. However, its long-term use can sometimes cause your kidneys to not work properly. Your doctor will get regular blood tests done to check whether your kidneys are functioning properly or not.

Q. Can I take Elrik before surgery?
Inform your doctor that you are taking Elrik, before surgery, especially when the use of general anesthetic (to put you to sleep) is recommended. This is done because Elrik can reduce your blood pressure when it is used with an anesthetic. Hence, your doctor may advise you to stop taking Elrik 24 hours before surgery.
