Lacoset 50 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Lacotab Syrup is an antiepileptic medication. It slowly inactivates the sodium gated channels, which decreases the abnormal and excessive activity of the nerve cells in the brain. Thereby, it controls seizures or fits.

Q. I have been taking Lacotab since nine months and did not have any episode of seizure. Can I stop taking it now?
No, you should not stop taking Lacotab even if you start feeling better. Stopping this medicine suddenly may lead to seizures which will be difficult to control. Talk to your doctor if you have any problems with Lacotab. The doctor will reduce the dose gradually.

Q. Is it safe to drive if I am taking Lacotab?
No, you need to be careful while driving or operating heavy machinery until and unless you know how Lacotab affects you. Lacotab may cause dizziness or drowsiness and blurred vision, which is more when you start treatment and when the dose is increased.

Q. What should I do if I forget a dose of Lacotab?
If you miss a dose within 6 hours of the scheduled time, take it immediately and then take the next dose at the regular scheduled time. However, if you have forgotten to take it and more than 6 hours have elapsed beyond the scheduled time, then skip the dose and take the next one as scheduled. Do not double the dose.

Q. Is Lacotab a habit-forming medicine?
No, Lacotab is not habit forming and there are no reports of withdrawal symptoms following its discontinuation. Lacotab may cause euphoria (patients may feel extremely happy and overwhelmed) in some individuals who may then take it merely for fun (drug abuse). Such individuals become psychologically dependent on this drug.

Q. Does Lacotab have any effect on fertility?
Lacotab has not been reported to affect fertility in males or females.

Q. Can I take Lacotab if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
Though no potential side effects have been reported with the use of Lacotab during pregnancy and breastfeeding, it is best to avoid Lacotab during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Q. For how long do I need to continue Lacotab?
Lacotab is generally used for long-term treatment. Keep taking the medicine as per your doctor’s advice and till you can tolerate the side effects. Talk to your doctor if the side effects bother you.

Q. What if somebody takes excess of Lacotab?
Excess of Lacotab may cause dizziness, nausea, vomiting, seizures, shock, heart problems and even coma. If such a situation arises, seek emergency medical support in a nearby hospital.

Q. Is it safe to take Lacotab if I am on ritonavir therapy?
Be cautious if you are taking Lacotab while on ritonavir therapy. If you have liver or kidney problems and are taking ritonavir, the dose of Lacotab should be reduced. Inform your doctor before starting Lacotab.
