- Methodology: Flow cytometry is used to detect the presence of HLA B27 on the surface of white blood cells. The test uses antibodies that bind specifically to the HLA B27 antigen and measures fluorescence intensity to identify positive cells.
- Purpose: Identifies the presence of the HLA B27 protein, which is associated with certain autoimmune conditions, especially ankylosing spondylitis and other inflammatory diseases.
